Privacy of Information at Stanford

Confidential – to the extent protected by law, your interactions with this service cannot be revealed to another person or organization without your express authorization.  Examples include doctor-patient confidentiality, attorney-client confidentiality, and clergy-parishioner confidentiality.  Possible legal exceptions to the protection of confidentiality might include, but are not limited to, when there is imminent threat of harm to you or another person, when there is abuse or neglect of a minor, an elder, or a disabled person, when an assault has resulted in evidence of physical injury, or when there is a properly executed Court Order.

When you are seeking services from a University office that does not have confidential status, you can expect your information will remain private except to the extent that it needs to be shared with other University officials that need to know in order to provide services to you or the university.  We may tell others in a safety emergency.

Reporting Obligations at Stanford – faculty and staff at Stanford who regularly interact with students are required to share with other University Offices reports of sexual violence, relationship violence and other concerns that a student is a risk to self or others.
